Leadership Indexes

Only Company in Shipping Industry to Be Part of Both Indexes

NYK has been selected by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP)* as one of only five companies in the FTSE Japan Index of nearly 500 Japanese companies to be included in the Carbon Performance Leadership Index (CPLI).**In addition, the company was one of 22 companies to be included in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI).** NYK is the only company in the shipping and logistics industry to be included in both indexes. Each year, company responses are reviewed, analyzed, and scored by the CDP for the quality of disclosure and performance on actions taken to mitigate climate change, and the highest scoring companies for disclosure and performance enter the CDLI and the CPLI respectively.

The Carbon Disclosure Project is an independent not-for-profit organization representing 655 investors working to drive greenhouse gas emissions reduction and sustainable water use by business and cities. Its annual information request was sent to the Japan 500 target companies asking the companies to measure and report what climate change means for their business. The NYK Group openly discloses environmental impact data for the approximately 800 ships it operates, including chartered vessels, and has made significant efforts to reduce any negative environmental impact by the company. In addition, this year NYK has received certification from a third-party certifier to collect and disclose accurate numerical data on greenhouse gas emissions covered by Scope 1, 2, and 3 of the GHG Protocol. * Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP)
The CDP is an international, not-for-profit organization providing the only global system for companies and cities to measure, disclose, manage, and share vital environmental information. CDP harnesses the power of market forces, including 655 institutional investors with assets of US$78 trillion, to collect information from companies on their greenhouse gas emissions and assessment of climate change and water risk and opportunity.

**Carbon Performance Leadership Index (CPLI); Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI)
To enter the CPLI, a company must (1) make its response public and submit it via CDP’s online response system, (2) attain a performance score greater than 85, (3) score maximum performance points on question 13.1a (absolute emissions performance for GHG reductions due to emissions reduction actions over the past year), (4) disclose gross global Scope 1 and Scope 2 figures, and (5) score maximum performance points for verification of Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. To enter the CDLI, a company must (1) make its response public and submit it via CDP’s online response system, and (2) achieve a score within the top 10 percent of the total Japan 500 population.
